TIMOTHY HEAVNER,
pianist and CAS Assistant Director, is active as a performer and educator throughout the New York City Metropolitan
and Tri-State areas. He is currently Chair of the Performing Arts Department at Friends Seminary, a private K-12
school in the East Village of Manhattan. In October, Mr. Heavner will serve as Musical Director for The Rocky
Horror Show produced by Playhouse on the Green in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Mr. Heavner has taught classes at
the Manhattan School of Music, and he co-directed the Upper and Middle School Choruses and the annual Gilbert &
Sullivan production at the Allen-Stevenson School; he also served as Music Director and Organist at the Church of
the Ascension on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Mr. Heavner served as Music Director and Conductor of Mozart’s
Le Nozze di Figaro for JADE Opera in 2001, and again conducted the work at the Ars Musica Summer Institute
in Minneapolis in the summer of 2002.
In 2001, Mr. Heavner moved to New York from his hometown of Anchorage, Alaska. In Anchorage, his activities
ranged from music directing work in various churches to symphonic and choral conducting, from solo and
collaborative performing as a pianist, organist, percussionist, actor and singer to jazz and commercial work,
from composing and arranging to musical theater direction - all while maintaining a successful private teaching
studio as well as private and public teaching positions at elementary through college levels. Prior to leaving
Alaska, he had a thirteen-year association with Anchorage Opera, where his roles included everything from timpanist
to répétiteur, chorus singer to Chorus Master, comprimario roles to Conductor to Assistant Music Director, and
the role of Nemerino in a reduced version of L’Elisir d’Amore, produced by the Anchorage Opera Guild. In the
2000-2001 season, he served as Musical Director for Anchorage Opera’s Studio Theater (an education and outreach
program), which provided hands-on workshops to over 9,000 children statewide.
Mr. Heavner holds a degree in Piano Performance from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and has pursued graduate
studies in Vocal Accompanying at the Manhattan School of Music. He currently resides in Manhattan and is the
proud father of two young sons, Benjamin and Tristan.
